Cartoonists Across America's founder Phil Yeh spent some time during his annual Comic-Con International appearance this July 2007, creating a new work of art for the walls of The Palm restaurant in the gaslamp district of San Diego. Phil's work graces the entrance of one of the private dining rooms featuring a portrait of Phil's old friend Shel Dorf, who founded the original San Diego Comic-Con almost 40 years ago.
Also on the wall inside the same dining room is a classic cartoon by Walt Kelly, creator of Pogo and another by Zeke Zekley, the artist who continued drawing the comic strip Bringing Up Father by George McManus, after he retired. Zeke was another old friend of Phil's and worked with the late great Alfredo Alcala on the famous P.S. magazine for our servicemen in the 1970s.
The Palm restaurants are located throughout the United States and all carry on the tradition of displaying great cartoon art on their walls, a tradition which began in the original location in New York City in the late 1920s.
