January

Friday-Sunday, January 11-13, 2002 :
Phil Yeh will be a guest at Rusty Con in
Bellevue, Washington, right across from Seattle . This convention will cover science fiction, fantasy and comics and Phil will be speaking about self-publishing for the last 32 years and his work. Book signings will be part of the fun.

Monday-Friday, January 14-18, 2002 :
Phil taught art classes at
Oakley Elementary School in Santa Maria, California.

Tuesday, January 22, 2002 :
Phil spoke at the
Mountain Vista Elementary School in Indio, California.

Saturday, January 26, 2002 :
Mural event in our headquarters city of
Lompoc, California at the new Read More Books store on H Street. Phil and his sons will be out for the fun with local students and the community as they paint a mural celebrating reading and the arts for the community. Sponsors are needed to give away books to the students in the Lompoc schools. Special guest author/artist Bruce Hale who has a number of bestsellers based on Chet Gecko will be at the event as well. Other artists will be announced shortly.

February

Saturday and Sunday,February 9-10, 2002 :
We are painting a mural from 11 am to 4 pm on the weekend to celebrate the opening of a special fine art show called
"Shining A Light", a celebration of Dyslexic Artists. This beautiful first annual exhibit will run from February 6 to February 16, 2002 at the Art and Cultural Center, 105 South Main Street, Fallbrook, California. The opening reception for the artists will be held February 9 from 5 pm to 8 pm - reservations necessary. To RSVP call (760) 751-1127. The show is co-sponsored by the National Dyslexic Research Foundation and includes original watercolors from the The Winged Tiger & The Lace Princess fairytale by Phil Yeh and Lieve Jerger. Special Guest artist Lieve Jerger will also be showing her copper lace artwork in the gallery. Artists include: Ed Paker, Mary Buckman, Tim Burns, Stoney Lester DeMent, William Ware, Dale St. Denis.

March

Thursday and Friday, March 7-8, 2002 :
Phil returns to
Casa Blanca Community School in Bapchule, Arizona for another fun two days of mural painting and school assemblies. This is Phil's third visit with the kids of this wonderful school and he is excited about continuing the work that was started last November.

Friday, March 22, 2002 :
Mural painting event from 12 noon to 5 pm at the
Everett Public Library in Everett, Washington . Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Scott Alan Wilson (who joined our band of artists in January after meeting Phil at Rusty Con in Bellevue), lives in Everett and we are excited about doing our first mural in his town.

This is the first of three events to debut the 11th issue of the
Winged Tiger Comics & Stories which has a huge scene set in Seattle featuring: Jennifer Daydreamer, Lin Lucas, Jim Woodring, Roberta Gregory, Donna Barr, Rick Veitch, Jason Lutes, Craig Thompson, Pat Moriarity, Tom Hart, Megan Kelso, David Lasky, Larry Lewis, Elizabeth Pankey, and Scott Alan (and that's just for the scene set in Seattle!!!!). Also featured in this issue are Hawaiian aritsts Jon Murakami and Darlene Oshiro and Mexican artists Daniel Ortiz Celestino and Jose Quintero (creator of Buba!). The musical guests are Keiko and Kazu Matsui in Japan and Los Lobos in East Los Angeles making this one of the very best issues of the series yet! The whole Ideaship storyline will wrap up in the 12th issue slated for Summer 2002.

Mural painting event at
The Factoria Mall in Bellevue, Washington from 11 am to 5 pm. We hope to have many of the Seattle artists attend these local events to kick off the new Winged Tiger issue ! Everyone is invited to come and join in the fun as we paint a mural promoting Reading, The Arts and Dreaming!

Sunday, March 24, 2002 :
Bothell Books in Bothell, Washington from noon to 3 pm will find some of the Seattle issue artists signing books and doing another mural for the community of Bothell.

Wednesday, April 24, 2002 :
Mural painting event at the
Santa Maria Town Center in the state of California. This event is designed to bring out the kids in the community as we celebrate the coming Star Wars film with issues of the
Winged Tiger Comics & Stories featuring Star Wars creator George Lucas.

Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28, 2002 :
The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books at the
UCLA Campus will again have Cartoonists Across America paint a monumental mural for literacy and the arts. Everyone is invited to attend and paint with us. We will also debut many new books, including a hot, new, full-color edition of The Legend of The Winged Tiger - in both English and Spanish ! More info at this URL: www.latimes.com/extras/events/fob

Thursday, May 2, 2002 :
Weequahick Branch Library at 355 Osborne Terrace, Newark, New Jersey. Mural painting event from 11 am to 5 pm. Call Dolores Whitehead for more info at 973-7751. This event was re-scheduled from September 2001.

Friday-Sunday, May 3-5, 2002 :
BookExpoAmerica in the Javits Center in New York City ! After 10 years, the Book Show returned to the publishing center of the United States and Cartoonists Across America painted a huge mural celebrating the city that we love so much and also literacy and the arts. We had an all-star group of guest artists for this event ! Our European Vice-President Klaus Leven flew in for the Newark Public Library event and also the BookExpoAmerica show. Klaus was joined by our New York crew of Laura Basili and Mike Wolf from years gone by. Laura is a reading specialist in NY and is working to help us get more work in her state and Mike went to work for Vanity Fair and Talk magazine since his early days on the road with Cartoonists Across America. He was a great help on the entire East Coast tour this year. Award winning cartoonists and teachers at the famous School of Visual Arts Howard Cruse and Tom Hart also came by and painted with us along with artist Wendy Baker from the St. Louis area and special surprise guest Kevin Eastman (co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). We had many old and new friends stop by this year to help make this one of the best mural events in New York City to date. Special thanks to Brenda and Keith Murphy (Brenda will be on Rosie in May!) and Jerry Poynton for all their help!

Wednesday, May 8, 2002 :
Westfield Shoppingtown Meriden in Connecticut will host our first mural painting in that city! We will be at the mall from 11 am to 5 pm. Come out and join in the fun!

Wednesday, May 10, 2002 :
Our first Mural Painting event in
Springfield, Massachusetts ! This all day family event will take place at the Brightwood Branch of the Springfield Public Library. More details will be announced soon !

Saturday May 18, 2002 :
11 am to 5 pm. Mike Portaro, our new vice-president in the home office will be performing as The Lone Drummer while Phil paints a mural for the
Santa Barbara community at the Albertsons shopping center in Santa Barbara, California. This marks the first time (but not the last) that Cartoonists Across America & The World teams up with Mike's incredible musical talents as The Lone Drummer. Mike has performed at Universal City Walk in Hollywood and many other places all over the state. His show is something that has to be seen and heard!

Saturday, May 25, 2002 :
Cartoonists Across America's Hawaiian VP Jon Murakami and other top local artists will come out to join Phil at the beautiful
Ala Moana Shopping Center in Honolulu on Saturday, May 25 from 10 am to 3 pm. Our events in Hawaii always draw some of the very best artists in the state and this event will also feature local talent and special guests to be announced!

June

Saturday, June 8, 2002 :
We are back in the
Santa Maria Town Center to kick off the summer reading programs for the Central Coast of California. This all day event is designed for the entire family and will run from 11 am to 5 pm. Everyone is invited to come out a paint with us!

Friday, June 21, 2002 :
Phil is painting a mural at
Shopper's World in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. This is an event for the entire community and we are thrilled at being back in Canada after all these years. Phil will also be painting our first mural at BookExpoCanada in Toronto on June 23-24.

Saturday, June 22, 2002 :
McKinley Mall for our first mural painting event in the Buffalo, New York area. After 17 years on the road, we are finally coming to this area. Everyone is invited to the mall from 11 am to 5 pm to take in the fun! Phil will also have comics for the kids!

Sunday-Monday, June 23-24, 2002 :
Our first mural ever at
BookExpoCanada in Toronto ! We are working with the show and also a great group called Word on the Street. We hope to see many cartoonists from Canada on this trip.

Sunday, June 30, 2002 :
County Fair Mall in Woodland, California near Sacramento for our first mural event in that city. After all these years, there are still towns in our home state that we have yet to paint a mural in although we have painted more than 1000 murals and many of them in this state over the years. We will be at the mall from noon to 5 pm.

July

Tuesday, July 2, 2002 :
Phil is speaking at the
Atascadero Public Library from 6:30 pm to 8 pm. We are planning a mural painting event for the daylight - stay tuned for further details. Atascadero is in the Central Coast of California.

Friday, July 26, 2002 :
CAA Vice-President Michael Portaro aka The Lone Drummer is playing his drums and singing for the entire five hour event at
Albertsons Shopping Center in Orcutt, California. While Mike plays, CAA President Phil Yeh will paint our first mural for that city with local kids and adults! This event is co-sponsored by The Santa Maria Sun, Albertsons, Cold Stone Creamery, Jiffy Lube, Target, Original Roadhouse Grill, Mad Mike's Party Jumpers, Mad Mike's Bikes, Suvan's Kitchen, Burrito Loco,and Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites.

Wednesday, July 31, 2002 :
Phil is speaking at a teacher's training workshop and festival at
California State University in Long Beach. More details about this event are coming.

August

Thursday-Sunday, August 1-4, 2002 :
We've been invited to paint another mural celebrating reading and the arts at the
San Diego Comic Con International. More than 50,000 pop culture fans will celebrate with us at the San Diego Convention Center. We have been attending this convention since the very first one and meet many old (and new) fans each year here. We also try and talk many world famous artists into drawing on the murals created for the San Diego Literacy Council.

Saturday, August 10, 2002 :
Mural painting event at the
Sunrise Shopping Center in Casper, Wyoming. We will be working with local youth and service groups to make this a great event for the entire area. We painted our first and only Wyoming mural in Casper in last 17 years and we are happy to be back after all these years.

Wednesday, August 14, 2002 :
Phil will be reading one of his books and painting a mural at the
Southridge Mall in Greendale, Wisonsin from 1 pm to 7 pm. This is part of a family event celebrating reading and everyone is invited.

Saturday, August 17, 2002 :
Our first mural painting event in
County East Mall in Antioch, Calfornia. The 12th issue of the Winged Tiger Comics & Stories will be out in time for this event in Northern California ! Come out and join the fun this summer.

Sunday, August 18, 2002 :
Mural and tribute art exhibition to the late great Filipino artist Alfredo Alcala at the
San Francisco Public Library. We will be painting with Alfredo's youngest son Christian. Alfredo was Phil Yeh's best friend and a solid supporter of Cartoonists Across America & The World from the very beginning.

Saturday August 24, 2002 :
Mural painting event at the
Lincoln Mall in Matteson, Illinois in greater Chicagoland and near Homewood, Illinois where Phil Yeh's mother grew up. Phil is always excited to come out to his birthplace (especially during baseball season) and to see all his many relatives and friends in the area. Our very busy vice-president of the Chicago office, Geoff Bevington will hopefully join in the fun as well as other Chicagoland artists!

Sunday August 25, 2002 :
Mural painting event at the
North Park Mall in Marion, Indiana. Phil will have copies of Winged Tiger Comics & Stories #9 at this event featuring Indiana's own Krystal the Supergirl! Krystal did the music for The Princess Diaries and toured with the Backstreet Boys.

Friday August 30 :
Mural painting event at the
Eastland Mall in Columbus, Ohio, home to the wonderful software developers Interactive Ink who did the work on our Theo the Dinosaur series a few years ago published by Panasonic.

September

Saturday, September 7, 2002 :
Michael Portaro (AKA: "The Lone Drummer") will perform from 11 am to 4 pm and Phil will paint another mural for our headquarter city of
Lompoc, California at the Albertsons Shopping Center. This event celebrates International Literacy Day and everyone is invited to come and join the fun.

Wednesday and Thursday, September 18-19, 2002 :
Baylor University for our third "Building a World of Readers, Artists & Dreamers" event with the college students and kids from all over the greater Waco region. This is turning out to be one of the best events we do every year! Special thanks to Rick Busby who got the ball rolling when he met Phil at BookExpoAmerica a couple of years ago!

Thursday, September 26, 2002 :
Manchester, Connecticut - Phil is painting a mural from noon to 5 pm at the Cat's Meow Comics & More (
www.catsmeowcomics.com), one of the few kid and women friendly comic book stores in the United States! The store is located at 829 Main Street in Manchester and their phone number is (860) 647-7850. This is a really rare appearance for us (we don't do too many comic book stores) and we welcome the help of all fans, friends and artists in creating this new mural for the community celebrating literacy and the arts.

October

Wednesday-Monday, 9-14 October, 2002 :
The
Frankfurt Book Fair has just invited us to paint our first mural at their show (the biggest rights show in the world). More details on this year's European tour to be announced soon from Klaus Leven and the
European home office. Klaus was with us in New York for BookExpoAmerica and he really made some excellent contacts at that show.

Saturday, October 12, 2002 :
We have been invited back for the second annual
National Book Festival hosted by The First Lady Laura Bush. The festival will be held on the West Capitol Grounds this year and we expect another wonderful turn out. Last year, Phil was kept busy from start to finish drawing free cartoons for everyone and talking about the importance of reading and the arts.

Saturday and Sunday, October 19-20, 2002 :
We are back for our third mural at the
Northwest Bookfest in Seattle. Details coming soon to this site.
